Happy Monday!
How was your weekend?
Stressful? Busy? Didn’t feel like a weekend? Need another weekend to recover from your weekend?
I spent the weekend with my family who do not live in town. So when we all get together, we try to make the most of our time together. Which means come Monday, I’m exhausted. It’s a good exhaustion, of course, we have a great time when we are all together, but it’s tiring either way.
I don’t think my family is rare, I bet a lot of people tend to over-schedule themselves, especially with kids. Before you know it, weekends are full of errands, time with family, time with friends, little Joey’s classmates birthday party, little Amy’s class science project and then all of a sudden it’s Sunday night and you’re exhausted.

I recently read about an idea to divy up your time on the weekend to make sure you aren’t over scheduling yourself and guarantees that you get some “me” time, or some quality family time, or whatever you need.
Think of your weekend as 6 distinct “time blocks”: Friday night, Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon, Saturday night, Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon.
Then, dedicate as many time blocks as you want to “down time” so that your self care time is guaranteed.
Dedicate another time block or blocks to errands or tasks you need to get done.
Dedicate another time block or blocks to events (Suzy’s birthday party, The Jones’ barbeque, etc).
This philosophy has two built in principles that must be upheld:
- You are allowed to say “no” to events that just don’t fit your schedule
- Your down time/quality time is just as important as someone else’s event.

Happy scheduling! Have a great week!
