Most people know I’m a huge Beyoncé fan. So thank you Beyoncé for the inspiration and title of this blog post. See Yoncé by Beyoncé for reference.
I could have used the Ferris Bueller’s Day Off quote, “Life moves pretty fast, if you don’t stop to look around once in a while, you could miss it”.
Basically, I just want to slow down. Stephanie (Stephanie’s bio) and I often talk about how long the days seem when you’re at home all day with babies and toddlers. We catch ourselves saying things like, “I can’t wait till the kids are in school” or “once they can do it for themselves then it will be easier”. This baby, young toddler stage is so hard.
But I don’t want to wish away this time. I don’t want to white knuckle this stage of my life. I’ve been told, “you and your family will grow out of this time and you’ll miss it.” I can’t decide if that’s in the same vein as people telling me they miss being pregnant 🙄.
So how do we slow down? How do I enjoy every bit of this chaos ? How do I enjoy this time?
Here’s where I’ve started…
* Do one thing at a time
My 3 year old has learned my phrase “we do one thing at a time” and I use it when he’s insisting that I make him hot chocolate, cook breakfast and put on a movie for him all at the same time. Nay nay Little Sir. One thing at a time.
*Drink hot coffee
I love coffee. And I deserve to drink it hot like the rest of the population!! I started to give five minute warnings to my kids when I’m about to have my coffee. Then if I finally get to sit down and drink it and I get interrupted by a request from a little person, I say, “after my coffee”. Hopefully, my children are learning the importance of coffee in my life and honoring my quiet time. 🤷🏼♀️We’ll see tho.
That’s all.
HAHA! That’s all I can manage so far. And that’s okay. Little steps, tiny habits, small bites.
